The new BlackBerry Storm is "set to put the squeeze" on the iPhone, it has been suggested.
Channel News states this week that the launch of Research In Motion's first touchscreen handset could cause problems for Apple iPhone 3G - which is expected to be available on pay as you go before Christmas.
The Australian consumer electronics news resource says the Storm features an "intuitive touchscreen" and adds UK newspaper the Times has said the phone "looks sleek and stylish - and is easy to hold and use".
However, it is also noted that the device is "thicker and heavier" than a number of its closest rivals, but that this may not be a problem for those looking for high-quality multimedia mobile phones.
Research In Motion confirmed details of the BlackBerry Storm recently with company co-chief executive Jim Balsillie stating in an interview that the click/touch screen was "revolutionary".
The manufacturer has also posted a 3D image of the Storm on its website, detailing its specifications.
