Boris Johnson has spoken out over his desire to see mobile broadband more freely available across London.

As mayor of the capital, Mr Johnson told BBC Radio London that more needed to be done to make wireless networks accessible to those who may be considered "information technology-poor", Broadband Genie reports.

He added that recent promises by the prime minister, Gordon Brown, to offer those on low incomes vouchers worth up to £700 for purchasing computers and fixed or mobile broadband services was a "desperate bribe".

The article notes that Mr Johnson's comments seemed more in favour of boosting wireless connectivity in London, as opposed to focussing on individual, wired services.

"What we need is a city where anywhere you go, you can log on, you can get on the web … I think that's the way we should be going," he concluded.

Mr Johnson was elected mayor of London earlier this year, replacing Ken Livingstone.
